EPA Double Distinction for FLM Training Apprentices

FLM Training are really pleased to announce that two learners on the Level 3 Team Leader/Supervisor Apprenticeship Standard have received a Distinction Grade in their End Point Assessment.

Jade Keys who is employed at Specsavers (Wigan Branch) is the 1st of her colleagues to enter the Gateway and undertake the EPA Process with Active IQ.

Caz Tyrrell, Jade’s Training Consultant at FLM Training said “Jade really deserves this recognition for the effort and determination she has put into her Apprenticeship over the last 18 months” Caz also expressed the impact the support and time her Manager and Mentor, Laura Gardner has invested into Jade’s Training & Development adding “The Mentoring role Jade’s Manager undertook and the influence it’s had on Jades development cannot be underestimated, it has been vital in the Apprenticeship process”

Luke Forber who is employed at St Helens GoActive and is based at the newly refurbished Selwyn Jones site has also received a Distinction in the EPA of his L3 Team Leader/Supervisor Apprenticeship.

Luke said “I enjoyed the EPA process, the Active IQ Assessor talked me through the process and focused on how I’d developed as a Manager over the course of the Apprenticeship and asked me for examples to evidence my responses”

We caught up with Luke just before the Covid-19 lockdown and asked him how he felt the Apprenticeship Programme had helped develop him as an individual and Manager, here is what he had to say:

After undertaking the course, I have widened my horizons in daily work life. I now have a better understanding on ways to approach different tasks and jobs set by my management and fellow staff. The apprenticeship has allowed me to discover my leadership style, therefore allowing me to deliver the best appropriate action for coaching and training towards other staff members. Overtime, I have built up my Speaking and Listening skills, allowing me to be a more confident person when chairing a meeting, delivering a 1-1 appraisal and being involved in a professional conversation. By gaining this qualification, it has opened a new window of opportunity at my work for a possible job promotion; this will enable me to start working my way up the management ladder.

The course hasn’t only helped me in work but also outside as well. This is because I have learned different time management models which have allowed me to priorities my daily home life tasks. As a result of this, I now have more time to socialise with my friends and family. I now have better outlook on life and have a more positive mind set, so when a situation arises, I know how to deal with it in the correct manner. Originally, my money handling skills were poor, but after finishing the course and learning about finances I now know how to budget and save up my money monthly which I can put towards my future.

I would recommend FLM Training. On commencement, I was excited to be put onto the course as I felt like it would open new opportunities, but at the same time was a little apprehensive. I knew it was big opportunity and wanted to challenge myself to achieve new goals. The written assignments were my greatest challenge as I know my spelling, punctuation and grammar needed attention. Caz has supported me by highlighting areas within my assignments and teaching me how to write with more structure, as well as learning to take time to proof-read my work. This has improved my confidence in many management communication tasks such as writing emails, training staff via power-points and general written communication.

Straight away my tutor Caz made me feel welcome, she delivered an Induction day as part of the programme and explained exactly how everything was going to run, what we would be covering on the course and how all the different aspects can help us in our daily role at work. Caz has helped by monitoring, mentoring and motivating me towards completion of tasks by providing feedback on my work, both written and verbally. It has made me more resilient and confident as a person.
